Song Joong Ki on Balancing Family Life and Career
South Korean superstar Song Joong Ki recently visited Manila to meet his Filipino fans. During an exclusive interview before the event, he opened up about how he manages to balance his busy acting career with his family life. The 39-year-old actor emphasized the importance of proper time management in maintaining this balance.
“If there’s a shoot or when I’m working, of course, I’d have to be 100 percent focused on that. But when I’m given free time, I’d prefer to spend time with my family,” Song Joong Ki shared. “That’s where I feel like my life is balanced. I feel healed when I spend time with the family.”
Song Joong Ki’s Plans to Explore the Philippines
Married to British actress Katy Louise Saunders, Song Joong Ki expressed his desire to return to the Philippines for a family vacation. He is particularly excited to explore the country’s renowned beaches and local markets.
“I want to go to supermarkets, places that Filipinos really go to on a daily basis. Those are the places where I want to look around—public markets, local restaurants… That’s what I really prefer when I go to countries,” he said.
He revealed that while he visited Cebu about 15 years ago, this was his first time in Manila. “I was in Cebu for vacation. But Manila, I never have been. So I just wanted to visit here. Next time I really want to come here for a family vacation. Because I heard there are many beautiful islands,” he added.
Warm Connections with Filipino Friends
Aside from his travel plans, Song Joong Ki also mentioned his friendships with Filipinos living in Korea and Italy. He described them as “kind and friendly,” which has shaped his positive impression of the Filipino people.
“I have some Philippine friends in Korea. When I stay in Italy with my wife, we have some Philippine friends there too. So the Philippine people for us, the image of the Philippine people is so kind always and friendly. So when I had that interview, I was telling myself that I really want to go to the Philippines because I have a good image of them from some of my friends,” he shared.
A Memorable Night with Filipino Fans
The actor’s visit culminated in a lively event at the Mall of Asia Arena, where he was warmly welcomed by enthusiastic Filipino fans. The crowd greeted him with loud cheers, creative banners, headbands, and themed outfits, reflecting their admiration.
To make the evening even more engaging, Song Joong Ki took part in interactive games such as charades and answered fan questions. A highlight of the night was when he was asked to create a flower arrangement inspired by his upcoming K-drama, “My Youth.” The bouquet was then presented to actress Janice de Belen, who was visibly touched and received a warm hug from the actor.
