South Cotabato Governor Re-elected League President

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato – For the second consecutive term, South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. has been re-elected as president of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP), the official organization representing the country’s 82 provinces. This re-election marks another three-year term for Tamayo, who leads the league until 2028.

Tamayo, who is serving his third and final term as governor, expressed his dedication to advancing the league’s mission. He vowed to “champion the goals of the league and to represent the voice of the provinces with integrity, unity, and purpose.”

“This renewed mandate is not just a personal honor – it is a shared responsibility to work harder for our provinces and to uplift the lives of every Filipino,” Tamayo stated.

Leadership and Alliance with National Figures

Before becoming governor in 2019, Tamayo served three terms as mayor of Tupi town. He is also the president of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the political party under which President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ran in the 2022 presidential election. Tamayo’s political alliance with the president strengthens his influence in provincial and national affairs.

Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo Cua, Tamayo’s running mate, was also re-elected as LPP chairperson, reinforcing their leadership team.

LPP Assembly and Officer Elections

The LPP conducted its first general assembly and officer elections for the 2025-2028 term on July 25 at the Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Quezon City. The oath of office was administered by Interior and Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor C. Remulla, who is also a former governor of Cavite.

Alongside Tamayo and Cua, who were re-elected unanimously, the election for the other six officer positions was competitive. Pampanga Governor Lilia G. Pineda, affectionately known as “Nanay,” was chosen as Executive Vice-President. Other senior vice-presidents include Isabela Governor Rodito Albano III and Camarines Sur Governor LRay F. Villafuerte Jr. for Luzon; Arthur R. Defensor Jr. for the Visayas; and Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo P. Demery for Mindanao. Misamis Occidental Governor Henry S. Oaminal was elected Secretary-General.

National Executive Board Members

The National Executive Board (NEB) consists of regional chairpersons selected from governors across the country’s 17 regions. Among them are Apayao Governor Elias Bulut for CAR, Ilocos Norte Governor Cecilia A. Marcos for the Ilocos Region, and Rizal Governor Nina Ricci A. Ynares for CALABARZON. From Mindanao, Zamboanga Sibugay Governor Dulce Ann K. Hofer represents the Zamboanga Peninsula, while Tamayo represents SOCCSKSARGEN.

Four governors serve as board members-at-large: Albano of Isabela, Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito A. Dolor, Siquijor Governor Jake Vincent S. Villa, and Surigao del Sur Governor Johnny T. Pimentel.

All officers of the LPP were elected from within this group of regional leaders, ensuring representation from every part of the Philippines.

Local leaders noted that Tamayo’s continued presidency signals a stable and united front among provincial governments as they work toward shared development goals.
