Southern Police District Clarifies Arrest Details
The Southern Police District (SPD) has issued a clarification regarding the recent arrest of a high-value drug suspect in Taguig City. Initially, the SPD identified the suspect as an employee of the Taguig City government. However, new information revealed that this is not accurate.
On May 27, the SPD reported that the arrested individual, known as Erwin, 20 years old, was a government employee assigned to the Flood Management Office of Taguig. Erwin was apprehended during a buy-bust operation on May 26 in Barangay Rizal, Taguig. Authorities seized methamphetamine, locally known as shabu, worth P711,960, along with buy-bust money.
Clarifying the Suspect’s Role in Local Government
Further investigation and internal verification by the SPD showed that Erwin was not a regular or plantilla employee of the city government. Instead, he served only as a community volunteer involved in flood control activities.
The SPD explained, “Rather, the suspect had been engaged in a limited, informal capacity as a community volunteer for activities related to flood control. He did not occupy any formal government position nor was he officially part of the city’s regular workforce.” This clarification came after initial reports caused confusion regarding the suspect’s official status.
Commitment to Accurate Reporting and Anti-Drug Efforts
The SPD emphasized the importance of accuracy in public statements, acknowledging any confusion from earlier information. They reaffirmed their dedication to transparency, fairness, and factual reporting in all operations. The district also stressed its ongoing commitment to intensify the campaign against illegal drugs, aiming to protect communities through honest and accountable service.
Local sources familiar with the case indicate that this development highlights the challenges in verifying affiliations during high-profile operations. Meanwhile, community leaders applaud the police’s effort to correct the record and maintain public trust.
