Southwest Monsoon and Low-Pressure Area Bring Nationwide Rain

Southwest Monsoon and Low-Pressure Area Forecast Heavy Rain

A low-pressure area and the southwest monsoon are set to bring widespread rain across the Philippines on Sunday afternoon, officials reported. The combination of these weather systems will cause scattered thunderstorms and rain in many regions nationwide.

According to the state weather bureau, the southwest monsoon and a low-pressure area are the main drivers behind the expected rain. This forecast warns residents to prepare for wet conditions throughout the day.

Regions Affected by Scattered Rains and Thunderstorms

Community members said scattered rains and thunderstorms will impact Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Quezon, Rizal, the Bicol Region, and Eastern Visayas due to the low-pressure area. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will bring similar weather to Metro Manila, Mimaropa, the Zamboanga Peninsula, Camiguin, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, and other parts of Visayas, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon.

Local leaders noted that isolated rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon will also affect the remaining areas of Caraga and Northern Mindanao. The rest of the country is expected to experience isolated rain showers from localized thunderstorms, officials reported.

Flood Advisory Issued for Key Regions

Due to the persistent rains, a severe flood advisory has been issued over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and the Bicol Region. Authorities urged residents in these areas to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against possible flooding.

Current Location of Low-Pressure Areas

One of the two low-pressure areas was last tracked approximately 675 kilometers east of Borongan City in Eastern Samar as of 3 p.m. Sunday. Meanwhile, the other low-pressure area was located 90 kilometers east-northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte earlier that morning, sources said.

Residents are advised to stay updated on weather developments and heed warnings issued by local authorities as the southwest monsoon and low-pressure area continue to affect the country.
