Southwest Monsoon and LPA Continue to Affect Philippines
A low-pressure area (LPA) combined with the southwest monsoon is set to bring widespread rains over most of Luzon and Mindanao, as well as the entire Visayas region, this Monday afternoon, officials reported. The southwest monsoon and LPA are expected to maintain unsettled weather conditions across the country.
As of 3 p.m., the LPA was positioned approximately 290 kilometers northeast of Maasin City, Southern Leyte, and about 130 kilometers east-northeast of Borongan City, Eastern Samar, according to weather authorities. This system continues to enhance rainfall brought by the southwest monsoon.
Areas Under Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorm Warnings
Weather experts warned residents in Mimaropa (Southern Luzon), Antique, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, and Soccsksargen (South-Central Mindanao) to expect cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon and LPA.
Meanwhile, the same weather disturbances are forecasted to affect Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and the remaining parts of the Visayas. These areas will likely experience periods of rain and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Localized Thunderstorms and Possible Hazards
Other parts of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized weather conditions. Community members are advised to stay alert as the southwest monsoon and LPA increase the risk of flash floods and landslides nationwide.
Local leaders emphasized preparedness amid the persistent bad weather, urging citizens to monitor updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
