Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Bising Impact Over 100,000

Southwest Monsoon and Typhoon Bising Affect Over 100,000

MANILA, Philippines — The latest updates reveal that the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Bising have affected more than 100,000 people across several regions. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that the number of affected individuals surged to 105,211, covering 33,026 families in 82 barangays throughout the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

This rise shows a significant impact from the southwest monsoon and Typhoon Bising, highlighting the urgency of relief and rescue operations. Families seeking refuge in evacuation centers have also increased slightly, with three centers now housing 15 individuals in total. Meanwhile, 3,026 people continue to receive assistance outside evacuation sites, according to the DSWD’s 6 a.m. situational report.

Damage and Relief Efforts

Four houses were completely destroyed, and 14 others suffered partial damage due to the intense weather conditions. The government agency has already distributed more than two million pesos worth of aid to support affected residents and help them recover from the disaster’s effects.

On Monday, Typhoon Bising weakened to a severe tropical storm as it moved out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility. However, the southwest monsoon remains active, continuing to bring heavy rains to many parts of the country.

Ongoing Weather Conditions and Warnings

The state weather bureau forecasts moderate to occasionally heavy rains in areas such as Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro due to the southwest monsoon. Residents in these regions are urged to stay alert as the habagat continues to affect weather conditions.

Local leaders emphasize the importance of community preparedness and support during this challenging time. “Mag-amping kita tanan, labi na sa mga lugar nga apektado,” some community members shared, underscoring the collective concern and resilience amidst the weather disturbances.
