Southwest Monsoon Break Affects Weather Nationwide
MANILA, Philippines – The southwest monsoon break is causing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms across most parts of the country, including Metro Manila. The weather remains hot and humid, but occasional rain is expected, especially during the afternoon and evening.
“Mainit at mahalumigmig ang panahon sa Metro Manila at karamihan ng lugar sa bansa, ngunit posibleng may mga isolated rain showers at thunderstorms, lalo na sa hapon at gabi,” a local weather specialist said in Filipino. This combination of heat and scattered rain defines the current weather pattern influenced by the southwest monsoon break.
Only the northern areas, specifically Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, are directly experiencing the full effect of the southwest monsoon or “habagat.” Even there, skies are partly cloudy to cloudy with chances of isolated rain.
Authorities have not raised gale warnings for any of the Philippine seaboards, signaling relatively calm sea conditions despite the monsoon’s presence.
Low Pressure Area Alert Monitored
Meanwhile, weather agencies continue to track a low pressure area (LPA) located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). As of early Monday morning, the system was approximately 1,445 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas.
Experts warn that this LPA may enter the PAR later on Monday, potentially triggering additional rains over the eastern parts of Southern Luzon and the Visayas by Thursday and Friday. Residents in these areas are advised to stay updated on weather developments and prepare for possible rain disruptions.
