Southwest Monsoon Brings Cloudy Skies and Rain Chances Nationwide
Most of the Philippines will face cloudy skies with chances of rain on Saturday, August 2, sources said. The southwest monsoon, commonly known as habagat, is expected to influence weather patterns across the country.
According to weather analysts, the southwest monsoon will particularly affect Batanes, bringing light to moderate rainfall that may intensify into heavy downpours by afternoon and evening. “Most likely, we will experience light to moderate rainfall. By afternoon and evening, heavy downpours are still possible,” a local weather specialist shared in a mix of Filipino and English.
Weather Outlook for Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao
The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers, especially in the Ilocos region. Meanwhile, Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
During severe thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rain remains a possibility, local sources added.
Sea Conditions and Tropical Weather Update
No gale warnings have been issued for the country’s coastal areas. However, moderate to rough seas may occur off Extreme Northern Luzon, with waves reaching between 1.5 to 2.8 meters. Other parts of the country should expect light to moderate sea conditions, with waves ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters.
Aside from a tropical depression in the Pacific Ocean—which is unlikely to enter the Philippine area of responsibility—no other low-pressure systems or cyclones are currently monitored that could impact the country, sources confirmed.
