Southwest Monsoon Brings Heavy Rain Across Philippines Monday
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon continues to dominate weather patterns, bringing widespread rains across the Philippines on Monday, local weather authorities said. This southwest monsoon is expected to affect several key regions, causing wet conditions throughout the day.
According to weather experts, the southwest monsoon remains strong over the western parts of Northern Luzon, Central Luzon, Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. These areas should prepare for extended rainfall and occasional thunderstorms.
Regions Affected by Southwest Monsoon
“We still expect that the southwest monsoon will bring rains in the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, and Mimaropa,” explained a weather specialist in Filipino during the afternoon forecast. “Meanwhile, other parts of Luzon will enjoy fair weather but with the chance of localized thunderstorms.”
The southwest monsoon may also trigger rain showers in Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao. Despite the wet weather, no gale warnings have been issued for any coastal areas in the country.

Low-Pressure Area Monitoring and Impact
Meanwhile, meteorologists continue to monitor a low-pressure area (LPA) located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. This LPA currently has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next one to two days.
Although the LPA may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility soon, experts say it will not directly affect any part of the country. Instead, this system may slightly enhance the effects of the southwest monsoon, contributing to the ongoing rains in many areas.
“However, it may not strengthen the habagat but it is the reason why effects of habagat are felt in most areas of the country,” a local forecaster added.
The LPA was last spotted approximately 1,215 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon as of mid-afternoon.
