Southwest Monsoon Brings Rain Showers Nationwide
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon, known locally as habagat, will bring rain showers to most parts of the country on Saturday, July 11, sources said. This weather pattern is expected to affect large areas with varying intensity.
Provinces such as Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and the Western Visayas region are forecasted to experience moderate to heavy rains due to the southwest monsoon, according to a weather specialist in the meteorological agency’s morning update.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila, Central Luzon, the Bicol Region, as well as parts of Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Pangasinan, are set for cloudy skies with chances of moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall throughout the day. “Any time of the day, it’s possible for us to experience some rain. And the chances of rain increase in the afternoon and evening,” the specialist explained in a mix of Filipino and English.
The rest of Luzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated sudden rain showers and thunderstorms, all linked to the southwest monsoon.
Gale Warning and Sea Condition Updates
Despite the widespread rains, no gale warning has been raised over the country’s coastal areas. However, moderate sea conditions are expected in the western waters, with waves reaching between 1.5 and 2.1 meters, officials noted.
The remaining coastal waters will experience light to moderate sea conditions, allowing for safer navigation during these weather changes.
Tropical Cyclone Outlook and Monitoring
In terms of tropical cyclone activity, the meteorological agency reported that a low pressure area (LPA) located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical storm early Saturday morning. However, it is not expected to enter the PAR or impact the country.
Additionally, cloud clusters east of the Visayas and Mindanao regions remain under observation. “We are monitoring the cloud clusters there for the possibility that these will have circulation and become a low pressure area in the coming days,” the weather expert said, mostly in Filipino.
Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated with the latest weather advisories as the southwest monsoon continues to influence the country’s weather patterns.
