Southwest Monsoon Causes Widespread Rain
MANILA, Philippines – The southwest monsoon is set to bring steady rains across Luzon and the Visayas, the weather bureau reported on Friday. This southwest monsoon will cause wet weather conditions in these regions, with scattered showers expected to persist.
Several areas including the Ilocos Region, Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Abra, Benguet, and Zambales will experience scattered rains and thunderstorms. Authorities warned that moderate to heavy downpours in these locations may trigger flash floods and landslides, especially in vulnerable communities.
Weather Outlook for Visayas and Mindanao
The Visayas and other parts of Luzon will see isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms throughout the day. Meanwhile, Mindanao will also face isolated rain showers caused by localized thunderstorms, though the weather remains generally lighter compared to Luzon and Visayas.
Wind and Sea Conditions
Moderate to strong winds will blow in extreme northern Luzon and the western coast of Luzon, accompanied by moderate to rough seas. In contrast, the rest of the country will experience light to moderate winds with slight to moderate seas, posing less risk to marine activities.
Potential Cyclone Development
Additionally, a low-pressure area was last monitored about 1,160 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon, outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Sources noted that this system still has a high chance of developing into a cyclone within the next 24 hours, which could influence weather patterns in the region.
