Southwest Monsoon to Bring Widespread Rain
The southwest monsoon is expected to bring heavy rains to Luzon and the western part of the Visayas starting Thursday afternoon, officials reported. This weather pattern, commonly known as the “habagat,” will cause scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Local authorities noted that Western Visayas will also experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Meanwhile, the rest of the country is forecasted to have localized thunderstorms, according to weather experts.
Flood Advisories Issued for Several Regions
Due to the heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, a severe flood advisory has been issued for the Ilocos Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region. Community members were urged to stay alert and prepare for possible flooding in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, moderate flood warnings were declared for Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, and Western Visayas. Local leaders reminded residents to monitor updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
No Cyclones or Low-Pressure Areas Detected
Weather officials confirmed that there are currently no cyclones or low-pressure areas within or near the Philippine area of responsibility. This means the main weather disturbance affecting the country remains the southwest monsoon.
Residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and heed any warnings related to the changing weather conditions.
