Southwest Monsoon Forecast Brings Rain to Western Philippines
The southwest monsoon, locally known as the southwest monsoon, is set to deliver significant rainfall across western parts of the Philippines on Tuesday, officials reported. This weather system is expected to affect multiple regions, bringing cloudy skies and rain showers.
According to weather experts, the Mimaropa region—including Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan—will experience overcast skies accompanied by persistent rain showers due to the southwest monsoon. Community members noted that these conditions could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Weather Outlook for Metro Manila and Visayas
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and other parts of the country will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies. Isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop from afternoon through evening, driven by localized thunderstorm activity. Local leaders observed that despite the rain, much of Luzon will still feel relatively warm throughout the day.
Furthermore, the southwest monsoon will likely trigger rain showers over Palawan, Western Visayas, and the Negros Island Region. The remaining Visayan provinces are forecast to experience scattered thunderstorms due to localized weather disturbances, officials reported.
Mindanao Weather Conditions Amid Southwest Monsoon
In Mindanao, the influence of the southwest monsoon will cause cloudy skies with scattered rains particularly over the Zamboanga Peninsula. The rest of Mindanao is expected to have isolated rain showers and thunderstorms from afternoon to evening, community members said.
Tropical Cyclone Update: Typhoon Gorio
In addition to the southwest monsoon, meteorological experts highlighted the intensification of Tropical Cyclone Gorio into a typhoon. However, it currently poses no direct threat to any part of the Philippines. The typhoon was last located approximately 745 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes.
It is moving westward at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour, carrying maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near its center and gusts reaching up to 150 kilometers per hour, sources said.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay alert and monitor official weather updates as the southwest monsoon continues to influence weather patterns across the country.
