Southwest Monsoon Brings Rain Showers To Luzon Sunday
MANILA, Philippines — Expect overcast skies and rain showers across Luzon this Sunday, July 27, as the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, continues to influence the weather. The rest of the country will generally enjoy fair conditions, local sources said.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that the southwest monsoon will mainly affect western Luzon, bringing steady rainfall. “The rest of Luzon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms,” noted Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina.
Weather Outlook for Visayas and Mindanao
Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will see mostly fair weather with only isolated rain showers and thunderstorms expected. This contrast in weather patterns highlights the localized impact of the southwest monsoon on different Philippine regions, sources said.
Monitoring Weather Disturbances Outside PAR
Authorities are keeping an eye on three weather disturbances outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). However, they are expected to either weaken or move away from the country’s boundaries.
One of these is a low-pressure area, formerly Tropical Depression Dante, last tracked approximately 690 kilometers north-northwest of Itbayat, Batanes. It has a low chance of strengthening and is likely to dissipate soon, experts noted.
Similarly, Tropical Depression Co-may, previously known as Emong, is forecasted to weaken in the coming days. It was last seen about 875 kilometers northeast of extreme northern Luzon.
Typhoon Krosa, on the other hand, will remain outside the PAR and is moving further away from the country.
For now, Pagasa is not tracking any low-pressure areas within the Philippine boundary, sources confirmed.
Sea and Gale Conditions
No gale warnings have been issued for any of the country’s seaboards, ensuring safer conditions for maritime activities this weekend, local authorities said.
