Southwest Monsoon Brings Rain to Key Philippine Regions
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon is set to bring rainy weather across most parts of the country on Saturday, June 28, 2025, local weather experts said. The warm moist winds of the southwest monsoon will likely cause rain showers, especially during the afternoon.
Weather specialist Grace Castañeda shared in the morning forecast that the western areas of Luzon, including Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro, will experience wet conditions. “In the afternoon until evening or early morning, the chances of rain increase. We may possibly experience at times heavy rains,” she explained in Filipino.
Heavy Rain Expected in Visayas and Mindanao
The entire Visayas region, Palawan province, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao are also forecast to have moderate to heavy rains due to the southwest monsoon’s influence, according to sources. Meanwhile, other parts of Luzon and Mindanao may see rain from localized thunderstorms.
Castañeda added that there are currently no new tropical cyclones or low-pressure areas within the Philippine area of responsibility. “However, there are cloud clusters east of Luzon and Visayas that we are monitoring closely for potential development into a low-pressure area in the coming days,” she said, mostly in Filipino.
Sea Conditions and Safety Precautions
Authorities have not issued gale warnings for the country’s seaboards. Still, they advise that sea conditions will range from light to moderate, prompting caution for those venturing into coastal waters.
Residents and travelers are encouraged to stay updated with official announcements and prepare for possible heavy rains and localized flooding during the southwest monsoon period.
