Southwest Monsoon Triggers Rainy Weather Nationwide
Parts of the Philippines will experience cloudy and rainy weather this Saturday due to the southwest monsoon, the trough of Tropical Storm Jacinto, and an additional low-pressure area east of Mindanao, officials reported. The southwest monsoon’s influence is expected to bring widespread precipitation, affecting several regions across the country.
Although Tropical Storm Jacinto has already left the Philippine area of responsibility last Thursday, its trough continues to cause rain over areas like Ilocos Norte, Batanes, and Cagayan, local authorities noted. “But throughout the day, or by midday onwards, these rains will lessen. We will have improving weather, except for possible isolated rains due to thunderstorms,” said Pagasa specialist Grace Castañeda in a mix of Filipino and English.
Low-Pressure Area East of Mindanao Adds to Rainfall
Another weather system, a low-pressure area designated as 08h, was last spotted 1,165 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao. This system is expected to bring additional rain to Eastern Visayas, the Davao Region, and Caraga, community members said.
Combined with the southwest monsoon, the low-pressure area’s trough will also cause rainfall over Palawan, parts of the Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao. Meanwhile, Mimaropa will see rain primarily due to the southwest monsoon alone, according to local weather experts.
Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Luzon and Mindanao
The habagat will also produce partly cloudy to cloudy skies across the rest of Luzon and Mindanao, including Metro Manila. “In the afternoon and evening, there will be chances of rain, lightning, and thunder. This is still due to the habagat and localized thunderstorms,” Castañeda added.
Sea Conditions and Safety Warnings
Despite the rainy weather, no gale warnings have been issued over the country’s seaboards, officials reported. However, moderate sea conditions are expected in the waters west of the Philippine landmass, with wave heights ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 meters. Elsewhere, light to moderate sea conditions will prevail, with waves between 0.6 and 1.5 meters.
Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on weather developments and exercise caution, especially during afternoon and evening hours when thunderstorms may occur.
