Southwest Monsoon Brings Scattered Rains Across Philippines
The southwest monsoon, locally known as the habagat, is set to bring scattered rains to Metro Manila and other parts of the country this Thursday, officials reported. This weather pattern is expected to influence the skies over several regions, prompting residents to prepare for wet conditions.
Areas Affected by the Southwest Monsoon
According to a 5 a.m. forecast from weather experts, the southwest monsoon will cause cloudy skies with intermittent rains in Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, and Calabarzon provinces, which include Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon. Mimaropa provinces such as Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan will also experience these conditions.
Other affected areas are the Bicol Region, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga. Community members noted that these regions should expect scattered showers throughout the day.
Weather Outlook for Luzon and Surrounding Regions
Aside from the locations mentioned, the rest of Luzon—including the Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and Cagayan Valley—will generally enjoy clear skies. However, there is still a significant chance of rain, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours, local leaders said.
Palawan and the Visayas are also forecast to have cloudy skies with possible rain due to the continuing influence of the southwest monsoon. This could affect travel and outdoor activities in these areas.
Mindanao Weather Forecast
In Mindanao, scattered rains under cloudy skies are expected in most areas. However, the Bangsamoro Region, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen will likely experience fair weather, though afternoon and evening rains remain possible, sources said.
Severe Tropical Storm Podul Moves Away
Officials reported that severe tropical storm Podul, formerly named Gorio, no longer affects any part of the country. The storm exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and continues to move away, reducing any immediate threat to the archipelago.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions as the southwest monsoon continues to influence the country. Precautionary measures should be observed especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
