Southwest Monsoon Habagat Affects Thousands
The southwest monsoon habagat and Typhoon Bising (internationally known as Danas) have affected more than 95,000 individuals across the Philippines, sources said. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that 95,910 people, or 30,683 families, in the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, and the Cordillera Administrative Region are currently impacted by these weather events.
Despite the large number of affected families, only nine individuals from two families are staying in evacuation centers, while 3,026 others have received assistance outside these centers. To help those affected, the DSWD has already distributed aid worth approximately P725,875.
Typhoon Bising Weakens as It Leaves Philippine Area
On Monday, Typhoon Bising weakened into a severe tropical storm as it exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), local officials noted. Meanwhile, the habagat continues to bring heavy rain to many parts of the country.
According to the state weather bureau, scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday over Metro Manila, the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Occidental Mindoro, Batanes, and the Babuyan Islands.
Ongoing Weather Conditions and Precautions
The persistent southwest monsoon habagat remains a concern for residents, especially in vulnerable areas. Authorities continue to monitor the weather and urge communities to stay alert for possible flooding and landslides.
Efforts to provide relief and support to affected families are ongoing, with local governments coordinating with agencies to ensure aid reaches those in need promptly.
