Southwest Monsoon Rains Continue Across the Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon rains will continue to soak most parts of the Philippines today, local weather authorities announced. The habagat, as it is known in the Philippines, is expected to bring persistent rain throughout many regions.
According to a weather specialist, moderate to heavy showers will affect areas including Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro. The continuous downpour raises concerns about flooding and landslides in these vulnerable locations.
Regions Braced for Rain Showers
The habagat is also forecasted to cause generally cloudy skies with rain showers in Metro Manila and several other provinces. These include the Ilocos and Cordillera Administrative Regions, mainland Cagayan, and the rest of Central Luzon. Additional areas expecting rain are Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, Laguna, and parts of Mimaropa such as Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.
Further south, Aklan, Antique, the Negros Island Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula will also experience rainfall as the monsoon system persists. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and prepare for possible flooding.
Monitoring of Low-Pressure Area
Meanwhile, meteorologists continue to track a low-pressure area (LPA) situated outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). The LPA was last detected approximately 1,685 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon. Experts say it is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Since the LPA remains distant from the country’s borders, it currently poses no direct threat. Its trajectory is generally northwestward, and even if it enters the PAR, the chance of it impacting any Philippine territory remains low.
Citizens are urged to monitor official updates and exercise caution during the habagat season. The continuous rains highlight the importance of preparedness and awareness to mitigate the effects of flooding and landslides.
