Southwest Monsoon Rains Impact Metro Manila and Western Luzon
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon rains are steadily affecting Metro Manila and western Luzon, bringing widespread rainfall across the region. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported on Wednesday afternoon that the southwest monsoon rains continue to influence weather patterns nationwide.
In the 5 p.m. weather update, Pagasa weather specialist John Manalo explained that the habagat generates moist winds that carry clouds, which then produce persistent rains. “The wind will prevail in the coming days, and expect that rains will continue in Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Babuyan Islands, and Batanes,” he said.
Cloudy Skies and Thunderstorms Expected in Western Philippines
Manalo added that cloudy conditions will remain over the western parts of the country. This includes the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Panay Islands, Negros Island Region, and Zamboanga Peninsula. Areas may experience rain and well-organized thunderstorms due to the habagat.
Meanwhile, the eastern regions are forecasted to have fewer clouds and less rain, with only localized thunderstorms possible. “Eastern parts of the country will see less cloud cover and reduced chances of rain,” Manalo noted.
Low-Pressure Area Remains Outside Philippine Territory
Pagasa is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA 07b) located approximately 1,655 kilometers east-northeast of Basco, Batanes. However, Manalo said it is “unlikely” that this LPA will develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
Continued Rainfall Expected Thursday
The southwest monsoon rains will persist on Thursday, bringing cloudy skies and frequent showers to the western part of Luzon, including Metro Manila. Palawan as well as the western portions of the Visayas and Mindanao will also experience high chances of rain and overcast conditions.
Residents in affected areas are advised to stay updated with local weather bulletins and prepare accordingly for possible heavy rainfall.
