Southwest Monsoon Triggers Class Suspensions Nationwide
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon has brought heavy rains and strong winds, forcing several local government units (LGUs) to declare class suspensions on Thursday, July 31. Due to the severe weather, affected areas halted face-to-face classes across various grade levels to ensure student safety.
Class Suspensions Across Regions
In Abra, the municipalities of Licuan-Baay and Lacub suspended face-to-face classes from preschool up to Senior High School in both public and private schools.
Meanwhile, Pangasinan’s Mangatarem suspended all levels of classes, while San Carlos City and Dagupan City halted face-to-face learning from preschool to Senior High School for all public and private institutions.
La Union’s Bauang also announced suspension of all classes at all levels until August 1, 2025, as precautionary measures remain in place amid the persistent monsoon rains.
Benguet and Pampanga Join Class Suspensions
In Benguet, several municipalities including La Trinidad, Bakun, Sablan, Kabayan, Kapangan, Atok, Tuba, Tublay, and Baguio City suspended face-to-face classes across all levels, encompassing both public and private schools. Atok also included Alternative Learning System sessions in the suspension.
Meanwhile, Minalin in Pampanga halted classes for all levels in both public and private schools.
Local leaders noted that these preventive steps aim to protect students from the hazards brought by the southwest monsoon, commonly referred to as the habagat. As the weather system continues to affect the region, officials urge residents to stay alert and prioritize safety.
