Improving Weather Expected Across the Philippines
Officials reported that improving weather is expected across the Philippines on Sunday as the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, weakens. This change is set to bring more favorable conditions to many areas nationwide.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the tropical depression formerly named Lannie is moving away from the country, which will cause the southwest monsoon to diminish in strength.
Tropical Depression Moving Away, Habagat Weakening
A weather specialist noted, “So we expect our southwest monsoon to weaken in the coming days.” The tropical depression was last tracked approximately 430 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, outside the Philippine area of responsibility.
This system carries maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 70 kph, and is progressing west-northwest at 15 kph. Its trough currently influences only the northern parts of Northern and Central Luzon.
Rain Showers and Thunderstorms Forecast
Community members said the habagat may still trigger rain showers in parts of Central Luzon. However, other regions in Luzon can expect clearer skies. Mornings will generally be bright, but localized thunderstorms could develop in the afternoons or evenings.
Metro Manila’s temperature is forecasted to reach around 30°C on Sunday, providing warm but manageable weather conditions.
Good Weather in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao
Local leaders noted that Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao will mostly experience good weather. Still, localized thunderstorms may occur during the afternoon and evening hours in these areas.
Overall, the weakening of the southwest monsoon signals a welcome relief from the previous wet and windy conditions, bringing clearer skies and improved weather across the country.
