LIVE UPDATES: Southwest monsoon weather continues after Crising leaves
MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon weather remains active following the departure of tropical storm Crising. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported that three low-pressure areas (LPAs) are currently being tracked, with two inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and one outside.
Third LPA spotted outside PAR
On Tuesday morning, Pagasa detected a new LPA located 2,850 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas. This system holds a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. Authorities are closely monitoring its progress as it approaches the Philippine region.
Two LPAs inside PAR intensifying
Meanwhile, the two LPAs already inside the PAR show signs of intensification. One LPA, positioned 1,140 kilometers east of Central Luzon, has a high likelihood of becoming a tropical depression soon. The other, situated 225 kilometers east-southeast of Basco, Batanes, carries a medium chance of development within the next day.
These systems, combined with the persistent southwest monsoon or habagat, continue to bring widespread rainfall across many parts of the country. Local officials have noted that the habagat’s moisture is enhancing the rain showers and thunderstorms in affected areas.
Rainfall warnings issued for Metro Manila and nearby provinces
Due to heavy rain expected in the coming hours, authorities have raised a red rainfall warning in Metro Manila, Bataan, and portions of Cavite. This warning indicates that more than 30 millimeters of rain could fall within three hours, raising the risk of flooding and other weather-related hazards.
Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert and prepare for possible heavy downpours. Local agencies remain on standby to respond to emergencies caused by the ongoing southwest monsoon weather.
