St. Luke’s Medical Center Secures Gold Seal Accreditation
St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, has once again secured the prestigious Gold Seal of Approval from the Joint Commission International (JCI). This reaccreditation was granted after a rigorous survey conducted under the 8th Edition Standards.
“This is more than just a seal. To us all, it is a symbol of St. Luke’s unwavering commitment to deliver care on par with the highest international standards,” said SLMC president and CEO Dr. Dennis Serrano in a recent statement. The hospital’s continuous dedication to quality care is reflected in this renewed recognition.
Dr. Serrano added, “To be re-accredited by JCI under some of the most demanding standards in the industry is a reflection of the extraordinary talent and rigor that define our team. It also reaffirms the fact that Filipino healthcare institutions can lead not just locally, but on the global stage as well.”
JCI Accreditation Validity and History
The JCI accreditation remains valid for three years, during which St. Luke’s Medical Center must maintain continuous improvement and monitoring. SLMC – Global City first earned this global recognition in 2012, just two years after it opened.
This fourth reaccreditation under the latest JCI standards reinforces the hospital’s pioneering role in delivering advanced, compassionate, and safe healthcare, not only in the Philippines but across Southeast Asia, sources said.
Healthcare Excellence and Business Impact
The JCI accreditation highlights the hospital’s culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and commitment to safe, effective, and patient-centered care. From a business perspective, it also enhances SLMC’s reputation as a trusted healthcare destination, attracting medical travelers, corporate health partnerships, and international collaborations.
Moreover, the accreditation opens doors to global insurance recognition and strengthens investor and stakeholder confidence in the hospital’s operational integrity and clinical excellence.
Understanding JCI Accreditation
The Joint Commission International is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization that accredits healthcare providers worldwide. Its certification is widely regarded as the gold standard for healthcare quality and patient safety.
Hospitals are evaluated against measurable criteria across 17 core standards. These include International Patient Safety Goals, Access to Care and Continuity of Care, Patient Assessment, Anesthesia and Surgical Care, and Patient Care, among others.
The 8th edition of the JCI Hospital Standards, effective July 2024, introduces vital updates reflecting global healthcare priorities. These require hospitals to track and reduce diagnostic errors, ensure equitable care for vulnerable groups, promote data-driven decisions, and improve the security and integrity of electronic health records.
JCI Accreditation in the Philippines
Currently, only seven health institutions in the Philippines hold JCI accreditation. These include SLMC – Global City, SLMC – Quezon City, Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Makati Medical Center, MyHealth Clinic Shangri-La, The Medical City Pasig, and The Medical City Clark Inc., local leaders noted.
