Storm Surge Warning in Four Luzon Provinces Issued
MANILA, Philippines — Residents in Northern Luzon are urged to prepare as storm surges triggered by Tropical Depression Crising loom over four provinces, sources said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has issued warnings highlighting the risk of rising coastal waters.
Crising was last tracked 460 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, moving northwest at 15 kilometers per hour. The tropical depression carries winds up to 55 kph with gusts reaching 70 kph. These weather conditions raise concerns for coastal communities vulnerable to storm surges.
Areas at Risk of Storm Surges
Pagasa’s Thursday night bulletin detailed expected storm surge heights between 1.0 and 2.0 meters in specific locations. In Cagayan, towns such as Abulug, Aparri, Baggao, and Santa Ana are among those potentially affected. Similarly, coastal towns in Ilocos Norte, including Bacarra, Laoag City, and Pagudpud, face the same threat.
Moreover, Ilocos Sur towns like Cabugao, Vigan City, and Santa Catalina, along with Isabela’s Dinapigue and Palanan, are also on alert. The weather agency emphasized that although the risk ranges from minimal to moderate, residents along these coasts should remain vigilant due to high waves.
Crising to Intensify Before Landfall
Officials forecast that Crising will strengthen into a tropical storm by early Friday morning. It is expected to make landfall either on mainland Cagayan or the Babuyan Islands. Local authorities and residents are advised to closely monitor updates and take necessary precautions to safeguard lives and properties.
