Storm Surge Warnings Up in Cagayan, Isabela Areas: Prepare Now
Storm surge warnings were recently issued for parts of Cagayan and Isabela due to the impact of Tropical Depression Crising, sources said. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported a minimal to moderate risk of storm surges reaching heights between 1 to 2 meters within the next 48 hours.
Affected communities in Cagayan include Abulug, Aparri, Baggao, Ballesteros, Buguey, Calayan, Claveria, Gattaran, Gonzaga, Lal-lo, Pamplona, Peñablanca, Sanchez-mira, Santa Ana, and Santa Teresita. Meanwhile, coastal towns in Isabela such as Dinapigue, Divilacan, Maconacon, and Palanan are also under threat.
Potential Damage and Safety Measures
Officials warn that the storm surge could cause minimal to moderate damage to coastal communities and marine infrastructure. Disruptions to all marine activities are expected as high waves threaten the shoreline.
Residents living along these coastal areas are urged to exercise extra caution. Local authorities emphasize moving to higher ground away from storm surge-prone zones to reduce risk. Additionally, all marine operations should be suspended until conditions improve.
Current Status of Tropical Depression Crising
The weather bureau located Tropical Depression Crising approximately 535 kilometers east of Juban, Sorsogon. It carries maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 70 kph. The system is moving west-northwest at a speed of 15 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been raised over several regions, including Cagayan and its Babuyan Islands, Isabela, northeastern Aurora (covering towns like Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao), Quirino, Kalinga, eastern Mountain Province, eastern Ifugao, northeastern Nueva Vizcaya, and Apayao.
Experts predict that Crising will intensify and reach tropical cyclone status within the next 48 hours while continuing its northwestward track.
