Strict measures ensure safe May 12 elections
The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured the public that strict measures remain in place to guarantee a safe and peaceful May 12 national and local elections. Even as the polls approach, no serious threats have been detected days before the voting day.
PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo explained that police deployment on election day will focus on key areas such as polling centers, election hubs, checkpoints, border controls, and other places where election-related activities occur.
“So far, on election eve, we have not seen any security threat that could disrupt the polls starting as early as 5 a.m.,” she said.
Ongoing intelligence gathering and monitoring
This means the PNP continues to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to prevent any serious threat from catching them off guard.
Currently, the PNP is on full alert to make sure the midterm elections are peaceful, fair, and orderly.
Metro Manila remains safe and orderly
At the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), Police Major Hazel Asilo also assured the public that Metro Manila remains “safe and orderly” a day before the elections.
“Sa kasalukuyan, wala tayong natatanggap or nako-confirm na security threat or kung anumang planong destabilisasyon, pero patuloy pa rin ‘yung ating ginagawang intelligence buildup at monitoring para hindi po tayo mabulaga kung sakali man na merong mga nagpa-plano na gawing magulo ang ating halalan,” she said.
Asilo added that the NCR is classified under the green category by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), indicating there are no election hotspots in the region.
