Tree Falls on Market Stalls Amid Strong Winds
A mangium tree fell on a row of market stalls outside the municipal hall grounds in Dumingag town, Zamboanga del Sur, causing injuries to a vendor. The incident happened on Thursday around noontime as strong winds battered the area.
The fallen tree struck eleven stalls, disrupting the vendors’ daily activities. Community members said that the winds were unusually strong that day, which led to the tree’s collapse.
Vendor Injured as Tree Crashes onto Stalls
Macaria Alone, a vendor at one of the affected stalls, was hurt when the mangium tree toppled onto her place of business. Local leaders noted that she was immediately assisted and taken to a nearby health facility for treatment.
Officials reported that the area is prone to such weather disturbances during this season. They are currently assessing the damage and planning preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
Community Response and Safety Measures
Residents expressed concern over the safety of the market area, urging authorities to trim or remove vulnerable trees. “Daku gyud kaayo ang epekto sa hangin, wala gyud mi magdahum nga matumba ang kahoy,” one community member said, highlighting the unexpected nature of the accident.
