Tragic Student Drowns in Bohol Town
TAGBILARAN CITY — A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Bohol when a 17-year-old Grade 11 student tragically drowned while swimming off Sitio Susu, Barangay Villaflor, Loboc town. The student drowns in Bohol town after being caught in a dangerous whirlpool on August 30, sources reported.
The victim, identified only as Erick from Barangay Oy, was swimming with classmates around 1 p.m. during a school break. According to local officials, Erick was suddenly caught in a whirlpool and struggled before being pulled under the water.

Rescuers from the Coast Guard Sub-Stations in Loay and Tagbilaran, alongside TaRSIER 117 divers, immediately launched a search operation. After more than two hours of intensive efforts, Erick’s body was recovered at 4:28 p.m. and taken to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Community members expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Police investigations revealed that the minors went swimming without informing their parents, taking advantage of the school break to enjoy the waters.

In response to the tragedy, Coast Guard officials urged the public to prioritize safety during water activities.
