Sulu Government Sends Relief to Typhoon-Hit Luzon Communities
The provincial government of Sulu, alongside the Philippine Army’s 11th Infantry Division and Joint Task Force Orion, dispatched 2,000 sacks of rice and 1,000 cases of dry goods to support typhoon-affected areas in Luzon. This aid mission, a clear example of Filipino solidarity, was launched on a Philippine Air Force C-130 from Mindanao to Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.
Sulu Vice Governor Abdusakur Tan, acting as the province’s officer-in-charge, stressed the importance of unity during difficult times. “I hope our countrymen who were hit by the typhoon do not lose hope,” Tan said. He added, “Let us show that we can do this, and let us all work together. May we rise again — and in our rise, be stronger and more resilient than before.”
Military and Local Leaders Join Forces for Relief
Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. expressed gratitude toward the Sulu officials and military personnel for their swift and voluntary assistance. In a video message, he said, “Governor Tan, immediately and even without request, volunteered to help. We are grateful for their show of solidarity and compassion for our victims. Long live our brothers and sisters from Sulu.”
The relief operation, coordinated with Joint Task Force Orion, prioritizes reaching remote and underserved communities devastated by floods and storm damage. Maj. Gen. Leonardo Peña, commander of the 11th Infantry Division, highlighted the military’s extended role beyond defense. “Our soldiers are not only defenders of peace but also partners in humanitarian missions. Working hand in hand with the provincial government enables us to respond quickly and effectively, especially to those most in need,” he noted.
This collaborative effort between the Sulu government and the Philippine Army underscores a shared commitment to public service, offering timely help to those grappling with the aftermath of severe weather.
