Thousands Report Issues Through Sumbong sa Pangulo
In just one week since its launch, the Sumbong sa Pangulo platform has received over 2,000 complaints, officials reported. This surge highlights the public’s active role in monitoring flood control projects across the Philippines.
Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro emphasized the importance of the Sumbong sa Pangulo website, which was created to enable citizens to directly report suspected irregularities in flood control initiatives nationwide. “Nearly 2,000 complaints have been submitted since the Sumbong sa Pangulo website went live last week,” she said.
Platform Empowers Citizens to Monitor Flood Projects
Launched on August 11, the Sumbong sa Pangulo website offers the public an accessible tool to track flood control projects. Visitors can view detailed information, including project locations, contractors involved, costs, and expected completion dates.
Community members noted that this transparency aims to prevent corruption and ensure accountability in critical infrastructure efforts.
Government Cracks Down on Irregularities and Ghost Projects
The influx of complaints has prompted President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to issue a firm directive against fraudulent activities. He ordered a thorough crackdown on “ghost projects” and the officials and contractors responsible for them.
According to government sources, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has been tasked with releasing a comprehensive list of flood control projects. This measure is designed to close loopholes and stop irregularities from being overlooked.
Strong Actions and Legal Consequences Ahead
President Marcos also instructed authorities to blacklist contractors found guilty of misconduct. He warned government officials involved in such schemes that they will undergo rigorous investigations and potentially face legal action.
Usec. Castro added, “The President is pushing for charges to be filed against anyone proven guilty and involved in this conspiracy.” Such decisive measures reflect the administration’s commitment to safeguarding public funds and protecting communities vulnerable to flooding.
