Supreme Court Investigates Fixer in Missing Sabungero Case
The Supreme Court has launched a thorough investigation into reports that a fixer connected to the missing sabungero case is trying to influence members of the judiciary. This move underscores the court’s commitment to maintaining integrity within the justice system.
SC spokesperson Atty. Camille Sue Mae Ting confirmed that initial information was received from the Department of Justice. “It is the policy of the Court to receive and act on credible reports of corruption, including those coming from high-ranking government officials such as the Secretary of Justice,” she said.
Ting emphasized that all information the Supreme Court receives is treated with utmost seriousness. The court is dedicated to conducting an independent and comprehensive inquiry into the matter.
Justice System Faces Alleged Corruption Threat
Justice Secretary Remulla revealed that the Supreme Court has already begun probing the alleged fixer linked to the judiciary. “Actually, the Supreme Court is already investigating,” Remulla said during a media interview, noting he had discussed the issue with a justice earlier that day.
In a recent radio interview, Julie “Dondon” Patidongan claimed the fixer is a former judge who now holds a senior position in the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). Patidongan also alleged that this individual continues to receive protection from top officials.
Remulla hinted that the investigation’s scope goes beyond the fixer, citing irregular conduct that harms the justice system’s credibility.
Supreme Court Calls for Public Vigilance
The Supreme Court appeals to the public to stay alert and report any corruption within the judiciary. Atty. Ting encouraged citizens to send actionable information or evidence directly to the court at [email protected].
This investigation reflects the judiciary’s resolve to uphold transparency and accountability amid troubling allegations. The ongoing probe aims to preserve public trust and ensure justice is served impartially.
