Supreme Court Suspends Metro Manila Court Operations
Metro Manila court operations were suspended Monday afternoon due to severe weather conditions. The Supreme Court (SC) issued the suspension as the southwest monsoon, locally called habagat, continues to affect the National Capital Region.
“Due to inclement weather and to ensure the safety of judges, court personnel, and court users, Acting Chief Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen has ordered the suspension of work in the Supreme Court and all courts within the National Capital Judicial Region on July 21, 2025, beginning at 1 p.m.,” SC spokesperson Camille Ting shared in a statement.
Weather Warning Triggers Suspension
This decision came shortly after Malacañang announced the suspension of classes and government work in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. The region remains under an Orange Rainfall Warning, signaling intense rain that could reach 15 to 30 millimeters within an hour and is expected to persist for at least two more hours.
Local officials and court authorities emphasized that the suspension prioritizes the safety of everyone involved in court operations during this period of heavy rainfall. The ongoing habagat has caused flooding and hazardous conditions across the area, prompting multiple agencies to take precautionary measures.
Impact of the Southwest Monsoon
The southwest monsoon typically brings heavy rains to the region during this season. Residents are urged to stay alert and follow updates from local authorities regarding weather and safety advisories. The Supreme Court’s suspension reflects the seriousness of the situation, ensuring public safety remains a top priority.
