Supreme Court Declares Impeachment Complaint Unconstitutional
Vice President Sara Duterte’s legal team has welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling that the impeachment complaint against her is unconstitutional. From the start, the defense maintained that the fourth impeachment complaint was flawed in its foundation.
“The decision of the Honorable Court affirms what we had maintained from the outset – that the 4th impeachment complaint is constitutionally infirm,” her team stated. This unanimous ruling strengthens the rule of law and clearly sets constitutional boundaries to prevent abuse of the impeachment process.
Defense Team Prepared for Proper Proceedings
Despite the ruling, the defense team remains ready to face any allegations against the vice president in the appropriate venue and at the proper time. They emphasize respect for due process and the legal system.
In a separate statement, a prominent law firm described the Supreme Court’s decision as a “resounding triumph of due process and constitutional order.” They praised the ruling for protecting democratic institutions and reinforcing that the ends do not justify the means.
The law firm pointed out that legal experts had already identified constitutional defects in the impeachment complaint from the beginning. They expressed gratitude to the Court for upholding constitutional rights and to the public for supporting the vice president.
“We reaffirm our belief that justice rushed is justice denied, and that the Constitution must be followed not only when it is convenient, but especially when it is difficult,” the firm added.
