BUTUAN CITY – Authorities in Surigao del Norte successfully captured an escapee from the Davao Prison and Penal Farm on Siargao Island last Thursday. The Surigao del Norte police reported the arrest, highlighting their strong commitment to public safety through coordinated efforts.
Provincial police chief Col. Warren Dablo identified the fugitive as a 53-year-old man from Barangay Cadawinonan, Dumaguete City. The suspect was apprehended early morning at 3:35 a.m. in Barangay Union, Dapa. Background of the escapee and his crime
The individual was convicted for robbery with homicide under Criminal Case No. 169 at the Regional Trial Court Branch 43 in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, on May 30, 2012. Following his sentencing, he was transferred to Davao Prison and Penal Farm to serve his term.
However, on May 22, 2025, due to a medical condition, the prisoner was admitted to Tagum General Hospital. It was from this facility that he escaped on June 3, prompting an urgent manhunt.

“The PDL was apprehended without incident thanks to a series of focused intelligence operations across Surigao del Norte,” Col. Dablo stated.
