Massive Drug Haul Found on Batanes Shoreline
Authorities recovered suspected drugs valued at P166.6 million from the shoreline of Batanes, according to a report from local officials. The significant find was made in Barangay Kaychanaryan, Basco, drawing attention to the ongoing drug problems affecting coastal communities.
A 59-year-old fisherman discovered the stash along the coast on June 19 in the late afternoon. He took the responsible step of handing over the drugs to authorities on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 25. This act helped prevent the illicit substances from further circulation.
Details of the Recovery
The fisherman found a sack partially open containing 24 vacuum-sealed packages and another package labeled “Daguanying” with a white crystalline substance. Officials suspect these to be illegal drugs. Although the exact nature of the drugs was not disclosed, the total weight of the seized items reached 24.5 kilograms.
The local provincial office is now safeguarding the seized drugs. Plans are underway to transfer the evidence to a specialized laboratory in mainland Cagayan at the earliest available opportunity.
