Suspected NPA Rebel Killed in CamSur Clash
LEGAZPI CITY—Authorities reported that a suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed during a clash with government forces in Lupi, Camarines Sur. The incident unfolded Tuesday morning, intensifying efforts to curb insurgent activities in the area.
Col. Virgilio Olalia Jr., chief of the Camarines Sur police, shared that a platoon of the Philippine Army was conducting a combat clearing operation when they engaged in a 10-minute firefight with alleged NPA members in Barangay Belwang at 11:43 a.m. This encounter led to the death of one suspected rebel.
Operations and Security Measures Conducted
Following the clash, authorities recovered the body of the suspected rebel along with a high-powered firearm. In response, checkpoint and choke point operations were swiftly implemented at likely exit routes to prevent the escape of other suspected insurgents.
