Suspected Shabu Packs Found in Cagayan Sea Unearthed
CAMP Tirso Gador, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Authorities recovered fifteen packs of suspected shabu in the waters between Babuyan Island and Gonzaga, Cagayan on June 17. The suspected shabu packs were discovered by a local fisherman and retrieved by police forces.
These illegal drugs were secured inside a white sack, with each pack wrapped in transparent plastic. Officials also found additional suspected shabu with damaged packaging inside the same sack. Each pack weighed approximately one kilogram, resulting in a total of 15 kilograms valued at around ₱102 million.
Additional Seizures in Nearby Coastal Areas
On the same day, officers recovered more suspected shabu floating between Camiguin Island and Cape Engaño, Barangay San Vicente, Santa Ana. These packs bore the number “66” alongside Chinese characters and markings referencing “Freeso-dried Durien.”
Cagayan Police Director, Police Col. Mardito G. Anguluan, announced the seized items will be turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Region 2 for further evaluation and documentation.
Project SPIES Boosts Drug Interdiction Efforts
The recent discoveries are credited to Project SPIES (Strengthening Port Interdiction to Enhance Security), a program actively monitoring illegal drug presence in the province. “The successful recoveries of these suspected shabu are the result of the strong cooperation of the fisherfolks and the local officials. Through the Project SPIES, we are united to stop the proliferation of this illegal drug in the province,” Anguluan said.
Over the past days, PDEA-Region 2 reported multiple floating shabu finds worth a combined ₱323 million in the province. These include a pack weighing just under a kilo found on June 13 in Sitio Narvacan, Barangay Dilam, Calayan, valued at ₱5.7 million; two sacks labeled with “Daguanyi” and Chinese characters along with an unidentified liquid gallon, seized on June 15 in Barangay Centro 6, Claveria, valued at ₱312 million; and 750 grams discovered in a garbage bag on June 15 at Sitio Mingay, Barangay San Juan, Santa Praxedes, worth ₱5.1 million.
