An SUV rammed into three tricycles and two other vehicles on Friday morning along N. Domingo Street in San Juan City.
According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras”, initial investigation showed that the white SUV was on its way to Pinaglaban Shrine when it suddenly hit a maroon sedan. Then it later plowed through three tricycles before hitting a passenger jeepney.
The police and the local rescue team rushed the wounded individuals to San Juan Medical Center.
“Mayroon po tayong reported na sampung minor injuries, at mayroon pong isang kritikal na itinakbo sa San Juan Medical Center,” said San Juan Police chief Police Colonel Deodennis Marmol.
(We have reported 10 minor injuries and one is in critical condition who was brought to the San Juan Medical Center.)
The SUV driver, who is only 20 years old, surrendered to the authorities. The investigation also showed that the driver came from a hangout.
“Ayon sa ating imbestigasyon, itong driver ng Nissan Terra, galing sa pagpupuyat. So hindi siya nakapagpahinga at nakatulog po siya habang nagmamaneho. Dire-diretso ang takbo niya, at nagising na lang siya nung mabangga na niya ang sasakyan,” said Marmol.
(According to our investigation, the driver of the Nissan Terra came from a night hangout. So he was tired and fell asleep while driving. He was just driving and woke up when he already hit the other vehicles.)
The family of the SUV driver pledged to shoulder the medical expenses of the injured.
Further, the police reminded the public to avoid driving when tired or sleepy to prevent any accidents.
“Kapag tayo’y pagod, kulang sa tulog, ay huwag na tayo mag maneho. Siguraduhin po natin pag nagmamaneho tayo, healthy, attentive,” said Marmol.
