President Calls for Swift Enactment of National Budget
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has urged Congress to swiftly enact the proposed P6.793-trillion national budget for 2026. This call highlights the government’s commitment to advancing the nation’s development agenda and securing a prosperous future for all Filipinos.
In his Budget Message delivered recently, the President emphasized that the government remains on track with its Agenda for Prosperity. He expressed confidence that the Philippines is poised to emerge as a leader among nations, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region.
Focus on Recovery and Growth
“However, while we have recovered from the pandemic, we recognize that there is still much to rebuild, and there is still much that can be achieved,” the President said. This statement underscores the ongoing challenges the country faces despite recent progress.
Marcos stressed the importance of collective responsibility among government branches to ensure a brighter future. “Hence, I urge the honorable members of Congress to swiftly enact this budget. Let us work together to realize the full potential of our nation, nurture future-ready generations, and fulfill our dream of a Bagong Pilipinas,” he added.
Budget Allocation Priorities
Earlier on the same day, the Department of Budget and Management officially handed over the National Expenditure Program for 2026 to the House of Representatives. Officials reported that the proposed budget allocates the largest share to education, amounting to P928.5 billion.
Public works follows closely with P881.3 billion, aimed at enhancing infrastructure development, while health services receive P320.5 billion to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
Looking Ahead
Community members noted that the proposed budget reflects the government’s dedication to rebuilding and growth in the post-pandemic era. It aims to empower Filipinos and position the country as a competitive force in the global arena.
As legislative deliberations begin, local leaders expressed hope that swift approval will translate into timely implementation of programs that benefit every Filipino household.
