Taguig City Mayor Vows Strong Action Against Illegal Drugs

Taguig City Mayor Declares Firm Stand Against Illegal Drugs

Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano has firmly reiterated her administration’s unyielding stance against illegal drugs and gambling. Following recent police operations that seized nearly P3 million worth of shabu, she warned drug dealers and illegal gamblers to steer clear of the city.

Authorities reported the arrest of four high-value suspects—Ali Kamsa, Daud Macalanga, Nasrudin Adil, and Ana Grace Ortiz—in Barangay South Signal on August 12. Police confiscated 250 grams of suspected shabu valued at P1.7 million, alongside cash and a vehicle linked to their illicit activities.

Major Drug Busts Signal City’s Zero-Tolerance Policy

Just four days prior, law enforcement apprehended Marreon Pagkilalawan Jr., JR Sasil, and Arnold Gellie in Barangay Lower Bicutan. During the operation, authorities seized shabu worth P1.36 million. These significant arrests underline the city’s commitment to eradicating illegal drugs.

“These are not minor arrests. These are high-value drug personalities who have been preying on our communities. I thank the PNP, especially the Southern Police District and the Taguig City Police, for their swift action and dedication,” Mayor Cayetano stated, emphasizing the gravity of the crackdown.

Strict Enforcement and Drug Testing to Continue

The mayor stressed that the city government will maintain stringent enforcement efforts, including mandatory random drug testing for government employees and individuals in high-risk sectors. “If you deal drugs in Taguig, you will be caught, prosecuted, and face the full weight of the law,” she warned.

From June 2022 to August 2023, 314 city employees tested positive for illegal drug use and were immediately terminated. Additionally, 169 job applicants failed pre-employment drug screenings, reinforcing the city’s dedication to a drug-free workforce and integrity in public service.

Community Involvement and Ongoing Monitoring

The Taguig Anti-Drug Abuse Office (Tadao) continues to conduct comprehensive drug testing programs within the city. Community members are encouraged to report any illegal drug or gambling activities to help maintain safety and order.

Local leaders noted that combined efforts between law enforcement and citizens are crucial to sustaining a safe environment. The city government remains vigilant in its campaign to protect residents from the harmful effects of illegal drugs and gambling.
