Taguig City Starts Free School Supplies Distribution
The Taguig City government announced it will begin distributing free school supplies, uniforms, and shoes to public school students starting Friday, June 13. This initiative aims to support students ahead of the school year, with officials ensuring that the free items fit properly. “Uniforms and shoes that do not fit properly will be replaced. Each school’s distribution schedule will include on-site sizers to immediately address size concerns and assist students whose measurements have not yet been taken,” local leaders noted.
The Department of Education (DepEd) has set the opening of classes nationwide in public schools for June 16. In line with this, Taguig City officials urged residents to report anyone attempting to sell these free school packages. “The City of Taguig provides FREE P.E. uniforms, school uniforms, bags, shoes, and supplies to all public school students every school year. If anyone asks for payment or attempts to sell any of these school packages, please report the incident immediately to the I Love Taguig FB page, or call the DepEd TaPat Hotline at (02) 8838-4251,” the statement added.
Brigada Eskwela 2025 Enhances School Facilities and Literacy
Recently, Taguig City also supplied cleaning materials, paint, books, and reading nooks to all 52 public schools as part of Brigada Eskwela 2025. The kickoff event took place at Taguig Integrated School on June 9, drawing over 700 school heads, teachers, barangay and city officials, parents, and volunteers.
These reading nooks will be installed in every public school, featuring a mix of classical and modern books and novels to encourage student reading. Mayor Lani Cayetano introduced “BinniBasa,” a new mascot representing a cheerful young girl who loves to read and inspires others to do the same.
“This year, our Brigada Eskwela goes beyond classroom cleanups and minor repairs. I commend the Department of Education, under Secretary Sonny Angara, for placing literacy at the heart of the program,” Cayetano remarked. She added, “As our contribution to this national agenda, the City of Taguig is turning over additional reading books and setting up reading nooks in all public schools to help build a nation of readers.”
