Seven Minors Rescued from Online Sexual Abuse in Taguig
Authorities in Taguig City successfully rescued seven minors from online sexual abuse, officials reported on Thursday. The crackdown led to the arrest of a mother and her teenage daughter, who are alleged to have exploited children through digital platforms.
Initial investigations revealed that the mother, with the assistance of her 19-year-old daughter, recorded explicit videos of minors. These videos were then sold to foreign clients online for P2,500 per transaction, community members said.
Family Involvement in Online Sexual Abuse
Disturbingly, the 19-year-old suspect’s own three-year-old child was reportedly forced into the illegal online sexual exploitation ring, local leaders noted. This highlights the alarming extent of abuse within the family setting.
The Taguig City government emphasized the grave nature of the crime, underscoring the urgent need to protect vulnerable children from such exploitation.
Social Welfare’s Role in Protecting Rescued Minors
Social workers from the City Social Welfare and Development Office immediately took custody of the seven rescued minors. They acted as temporary guardians, ensuring the children underwent medico-legal examinations and medical checkups, as well as receiving urgent psychosocial support, officials reported.
The rescued children are set to be transferred to a specialized child-caring facility within Taguig for comprehensive long-term rehabilitation and protection.
Legal Actions Against Perpetrators
The mother and her daughter are currently detained, awaiting inquest proceedings. They face multiple charges, including violations of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009, and the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act, sources said.
Taguig City’s Commitment to Child Safety
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano condemned the abuse, stating, “This type of abuse has no place in our city. We will not allow any child to be abused, especially at the hands of those who are supposed to love and care for them.” She reaffirmed the city government’s unwavering resolve to keep children safe from harm.
Community members and officials alike remain vigilant in preventing such heinous acts and ensuring justice for the victims.
