Teachers Seek Clarification on Additional Election Honoraria

Teachers Demand Transparency on Additional Election Honoraria

A teachers’ group has raised concerns regarding the promised additional P1,000 honoraria for those who served during the May 12 elections. They are calling on the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for clear information about the status of this payment.

According to community leaders, many teachers and poll workers are asking, “Maraming nagtatanong kung nasaan na itong additional P1, 000 sa honoraria nung mga nagsilbi nung halalan, wala pang opisyal na sagot o pahayag ang Comelec ngayon gayong matagal na itong inanunsiyo ng Malacanang.” This reflects widespread uncertainty about the release of the extra compensation.

Status of Additional Election Honoraria Funds

Reports indicate that the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) confirmed the funds were transferred to the Comelec as early as May 19. However, local experts monitoring the situation say that none of the public school teachers or other poll workers have received the additional P1,000 honoraria yet.

One community leader shared, “Halos dalawang linggo na mula nang kinumpirma ng DBM na released na sa Comelec ang pondo, ngunit wala pa ni isang guro ang nag-ulat sa amin na nakatanggap na ng additional P1,000.” This delay has caused frustration among those who served during the 2025 National and Local Elections.

Despite understanding that this additional payment might not be disbursed along with the initial honoraria, teachers are urging for a more transparent and prompt release. “Nauunawaan naman namin na ito ay hindi talaga maisasabay sa honoraria dahil ito naman ay karagdagan,” was also emphasized.

Concerns Over Taxation and Delays

Another pressing issue for poll workers is whether the additional P1,000 honoraria will be subject to the 15 percent tax, similar to the regular election payments. One source pointed out, “Isa pang gusto naming maiklaro ay kung bubuwisan pa rin ba ito ng 15 percent, kagaya ng nauna.”

The teachers’ group calls on the Comelec to issue a formal advisory addressing these concerns. They stress the importance of ensuring that all poll workers receive their additional compensation without unnecessary delays or confusion.

Clear communication and timely payments are essential to honor the contributions of teachers and other election workers who played a vital role in the 2025 elections.
