Terence Calatrava’s Courtesy Resignation and OPAV Changes
CEBU CITY – Terence Calatrava’s courtesy resignation as head of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas (OPAV) has been accepted, but he will remain within the Marcos administration. This development comes amid a broader restructuring plan in the office of the Special Assistant to the President.
A source revealed that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. approved Calatrava’s resignation as part of changes related to the retirement of Secretary Anton Lagdameo, who currently leads the Special Assistant to the President’s office. “Anton Lagdameo is supposedly retiring so there will be some restructuring. The OPAV will be abolished but Calatrava and the other personnel there will be reassigned to other offices,” the source said.
Background on OPAV and Calatrava’s Leadership
Appointed in December 2022, Cebu-based businessman Terence Calatrava took charge of OPAV, which played a key role in coordinating government efforts across the Visayas. Under his leadership, OPAV launched the Bagong Pilipinas caravan, delivering services to Cebu, Negros, and Capiz.
OPAV also monitored and intervened during calamities in the Visayas, spearheading coordination among agencies to mitigate flooding in Cebu and Mandaue cities. The office maintained regular communication with national government agencies to ensure swift service delivery.
Calatrava’s Contributions and Future Role
Beyond disaster management, OPAV provided logistics and support for presidential visits in the Visayas and assisted individuals seeking medical help. Despite the office’s planned abolition, Calatrava and his team are expected to continue serving the government in new assignments.
Local leaders noted that this transition aims to streamline operations within the presidential office and enhance efficiency in service to the Visayas region. Calatrava’s ongoing involvement signals continuity amid these changes.
