Three Alleged Pickpockets Arrested at Pride Month Event in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines — During the Pride Month event at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman, three alleged pickpockets were arrested, local authorities said Monday. The arrests highlight ongoing efforts to ensure safety during large gatherings.
Authorities reported that two suspects were caught after one victim used the Find My iPhone feature to track a stolen device. The signal led police to Commonwealth Avenue near Ever Gotesco Mall, where the suspects were apprehended.
Details of the Arrest and Recovered Items
The suspects include a 22-year-old unemployed man and a 25-year-old female courier helper, both residents of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, police said. From them, four smartphones worth a combined total of PHP 169,990 and two bags were recovered.
Another 29-year-old unemployed woman was caught at the UP Sunken Garden while allegedly attempting to steal from a student. Police recovered two smartphones valued at PHP 40,000, along with two wallets and five pouches.
Ongoing Investigation and Additional Suspects
All three arrested individuals were turned over to the Quezon City Police District and are facing theft charges. The police also revealed that two additional female suspects, both adults and from San Jose del Monte, Bulacan, remain at large. Authorities are actively conducting follow-up operations to apprehend them.
