Three Arrested for Falsifying Overseas Employment Contracts

Three Arrested for Falsifying Overseas Employment Contracts at NAIA

Authorities apprehended three individuals at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) for falsifying overseas employment contracts, officials reported on Tuesday. The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed the arrests, highlighting the ongoing crackdown on fraudulent overseas job documents.

The suspects, identified as Rhea Borda, Nora Tafallo, and Baby Margarico, were detained on August 20. They were about to depart from Manila to Hong Kong as tourists when immigration officers flagged their documents during routine checks. The officials discovered that the overseas employment contracts (OECs) they presented were counterfeit.

Investigation Reveals Online Recruitment Scheme

Further investigation by the NBI revealed that the three individuals had been recruited online for customer service roles in Cambodia. Community members noted that the recruitment promises led them to prepare forged documents to facilitate their travel.

Interestingly, the suspects disclosed that an immigration officer, Mohammad Rashid Alonto, initially cleared their departure despite the falsified contracts. This revelation prompted authorities to pursue Alonto for his alleged involvement in the scheme.

Immigration Officer Now Sought by Authorities

“In their statements, the arrested passengers revealed that Immigration Officer Alonto was the one who initially cleared them during the immigration process,” officials shared. Despite efforts, Alonto remains at large as the NBI intensifies its search to bring him into custody.

The three arrested individuals are currently undergoing inquest proceedings for falsification charges. Meanwhile, Alonto faces charges for violations of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, according to sources.

Authorities Strengthen Measures Against Document Fraud

Local leaders emphasized the importance of vigilance against illegal overseas employment activities. They urged the public to verify job offers and employment contracts through official channels to avoid falling victim to scams.

The NBI continues to collaborate with immigration authorities to prevent similar incidents and ensure the integrity of overseas employment processes.
