Three-Car Smash Up Claims Lives in Isabela
Early Saturday morning, a tragic three-car smash up along the national road in Barangay San Pedro-San Pablo, Aurora, Isabela, left eight people dead and one in a coma. The accident happened at around 2:45 a.m., sources said.
Authorities confirmed the collision involved a six-wheeler truck and two passenger vans, resulting in a devastating loss of life and several injuries. The key four-word phrase “three-car smash up” describes the gravity of this incident.
Details of the Fatal Collision
Police Colonel Allen Lee Bauding, the provincial police director for Isabela, identified the vehicles involved. The truck, bearing the plate number CBA-4017, was driven by October De Leon of Echague, Isabela. The two passenger vans were Toyota Hi-Ace models, driven by Ron Ron Onalan and Oseas Calderon.
Calderon was declared dead on arrival at Cabatuan Family Medical Hospital in Cabatuan town. Several others, including passengers from Calderon’s van, were also pronounced dead at hospitals in Cabatuan and Roxas towns. Local leaders noted that the victims included four unidentified individuals and several named passengers from Barangay Turod Bulog in Tabuk City, Kalinga.
Casualties and Injuries
Among those who lost their lives were “Niches,” “Claribel,” and “Jing,” all passengers in Calderon’s van. In contrast, Onalan’s van, carrying sixteen passengers, had two injured survivors and one still in a coma, officials reported.
How the Crash Unfolded
Investigators explained that the truck was traveling southbound when it crossed into the opposite lane and collided with Onalan’s van. The sudden impact forced Calderon’s van, which was following closely behind Onalan’s, to crash into the rear of the stopped vehicle.
Rescue responders worked swiftly at dawn to free passengers trapped inside the vans. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the truck veering into the opposite lane.
Community Impact and Response
The accident has deeply affected families and communities in Isabela and neighboring Kalinga. Local officials urge motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic rules to prevent similar tragedies.
