Three Laborers Die in Motorcycle Truck Collision in Kabankalan City
Three laborers lost their lives following a motorcycle truck collision in Crossing Cabanyohan, Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on the night of Saturday, May 17. This tragic accident involved a motorcycle and a sugarcane-laden truck.
Local reports indicate that the victims, all residents of Barangay Tampalon, were identified as Rico, 26; Robin, 19; and Jomel, 21. According to community leaders, the three were on their way home from a fiesta and were reportedly intoxicated at the time.

Sources familiar with the matter said Rico, who was driving the motorcycle, was speeding downhill. He lost control and veered into the opposite lane where the truck was ascending the slope. The collision caused the three laborers, who were not wearing helmets, to fall onto the pavement.
They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, Rico and Jomel were declared dead upon arrival, while Robin passed away later in the hospital. Eyewitnesses and local authorities confirmed the severity of the crash and the lack of protective gear played a significant role in the fatalities.
Aftermath and Legal Proceedings
The 40-year-old truck driver surrendered to authorities shortly after the incident. Police reports indicate he will be released after the mandated 18-hour detention period. Notably, both parties have reached an initial settlement, allowing the case to proceed without further immediate legal action.
