Three Low Pressure Areas Monitored in Philippine Waters
Three low pressure areas are currently being monitored both inside and outside the Philippine area of responsibility, local weather authorities reported on Thursday, July 10. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) is closely tracking these weather disturbances due to their potential impact on the country.
One of these systems, tagged as LPA 07c, is situated within the Philippine area of responsibility. Although it has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours, it remains under observation. As of 8 a.m., this disturbance was located approximately 790 kilometers northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.
Weather Outlook for Other Areas
Meanwhile, two additional low pressure areas are being monitored outside the Philippine area. The first, named LPA 07d, shows a medium potential of evolving into a tropical depression within the coming day. This system was last spotted 2,070 kilometers east of the northernmost part of Luzon.
The second system is the remnant of tropical depression Danas, locally known as Bising. Positioned 475 kilometers northwest of Itbayat, Batanes, this remnant is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression within 24 hours, according to forecasts.
Heavy Rains Expected Due to Southwest Monsoon
Pagasa’s morning forecast also warned of moderate to heavy rains in Metro Manila and six other Luzon provinces. These conditions result from the ongoing southwest monsoon, or habagat, which continues to bring significant rainfall. The affected areas include Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, and Occidental Mindoro.
In response to the inclement weather, several local government units have suspended classes to ensure public safety. These include all levels of public and private schools in Marikina City, San Mateo in Rizal, La Trinidad in Benguet (preschool to Senior High School), Patnanungan in Quezon (from July 10 to 11 due to heat index concerns), and Montalban in Rizal.
Local officials urge residents to stay vigilant and monitor updates as the weather systems evolve. Precautionary measures are advised, especially in flood-prone and coastal communities.
